Aspen Historic

Set on a prominent corner on a major Aspen artery, the core of the house is a robust masonry structure set on a pristine lawn behindclipped evergreen hedges. A slate roof with numerous dormers establishes its domestic character. The external severity of the house announces the distinct architectural edge to Suburban Aspen. Internally, the monolithic mass provides a strong sense of shelter at the busy intersection.

The contrasting entry, porches and numerous dormers are delicately detailed and framed in long leaf pine with copper clad roofs. Though this detailing speaks to the historic architecture of Aspen, all exposed wood has been oiled rather than painted. The natural wood establishes a link with the rugged context at the towns edge and serves as a prelude to the surprisingly playful interior.
